While intended for professionals considering starting their own non-profit consulting company, this book is extremely useful for anyone making (or even just thinking about) a career move. Many of the concrete activities are designed to help identify your own value, as well as clarify your own goals and "must haves" in a job. It's easy to lose sight of these when navigating a job search- Small But Mighty's exercises are designed to keep you on track. I'm sure I will return it as a guide again and again.
Seriously, I wish this book was written 10 years ago -- I could only imagine where I'd be in my consulting. It has a little of everything, from the gut check on whether you've got what the market demands to practical tools for getting your nonprofit consultancy going. I read the book with my note book and pen to take notes, but I ended up doing so much more and left each chapter making decisions that are now driving my business plan. It's now my go to reference guide when I hit a snag with a client or when I'm thinking about a new opportunity. I can't wait for the next edition!
This book is so useful! It's been a perfect tool for me to think about my career in consulting and how I can take it to the next level. He provides almost tangible advice to help the reader develop a business plan and all the logistical details needed to execute it. I have loved working through the exercises, and it's allowed me to move from frozen indecision into a satisfying long to-do list! Romano also understands the unique challenges of working with non profit organizations. He really nails some of the issues I've debated myself when thinking about profit and sustainability of my business. I love his friendly, chatty tone - it's as enjoyable as it is useful. Overall, a great book!
